HAHS simply could not survive without the help of dedicated, caring animal lovers just like you who generously volunteer their time. From cleaning the cat rooms to doing dishes and helping with fundraisers, our volunteers improve the quality of life of many homeless pets that are sheltered every year. Volunteer Opportunities

There are many volunteer opportunities available at HAHS. Below are just a few examples of ways you can help.


  • Help with the cats – cleaning kennels/rooms, washing dishes/litter boxes
  • Help with the dogs – walking (must be over 18), cleaning kennels (must be over 18), washing dishes
  • General housekeeping – laundry, sweeping/mopping, washing walls/windows, painting, etc.
  • Handyman help
  • Fundraising Event help
  • Groundskeeping - lawn mowing/weed whacking at shelter, dog yard, or pet cemetery.

Requirements

  • All volunteers MUST complete a volunteer release form/application in order to volunteer.
  • Volunteers under the age of 16 MUST be accompanied by a parent/legal guardian, trusted adult over the age of 18 at all times.
  • Please dress appropriately, as clothing may get dirty, stained, or torn. Closed toe shoes are required, and pants are highly recommended.
  • Volunteers are required to set up a schedule for all volunteer opportunities and are expected to notify HAHS if they are unable to make their scheduled shift.

Whether you plan to volunteer on a short term or long term basis, we will set up a schedule based on your availability and our needs.

Please note: If you are planning to volunteer with your children, a volunteer release form will need to be completed for yourself, and each child that will be volunteering.

School Community Service hours

HAHS offers an opportunity for high school and college students to volunteer and fulfill community service hours. We know each student has a specific number of community service hours to be completed to fulfill school requirements.
